Juanita Bellavance, Variation 8, From Variations on a theme portfolio, Acrylic on canvas, 24 x 24 inches
When I'm making a painting the awe energy is in the making and solving and surprising myself. When the painting is finished and I look at it a few days later It reminds me of a moment in life I hadn't thought about in a while.
We were visiting family in Colorado and went to Estes Park. The family had walked around the lake. There were hundreds of aspen trees and their striking yellow leaves. The sun was going down and there weren't many people around. I love that time of day surrounded by gradually vanishing beauty and silence. Just enough sun was left to strike the nearby foliage giving it a glow.
I felt what our son calls a "moment" together in nature and the colorful thrill of the season to top it off. He says, "We're having a 'moment!'" This is the awe energy I thrive in whether in the present or from memory.
