That January Wednesday at 6 PM the dim light on the sandy riverbank created a wonderful blue cast on the wettest areas of the sand. There was the pull of the color across the sandy color where the water had lapped up and back on its travels. Finding these interesting bits of the riverscape creates curiosity about how the color has transpired. Usually, I would just walk on by.
I find myself mesmerized by looking straight down on the sand with all its subtle shifts of color and texture. And then just enough twigs and stones to add to the interest.
I'm thankful to be at the river during January because of the solitude and stillness of the experience. There is a deep feeling of connection with spirit as a result. I can imagine what was in the past perhaps vs being caught up in what is in the present when the kayakers are out in the spring and summer.
