What is it about grasses that are so captivating?
From childhood memories by a pond to the present, graceful motion in the breeze still attracts me. There's something timeless and captivating about the sway caused by the soft breeze—like nature's melody whispering through the landscape.
I was mesmerized by the tall grasses and the contrast of the deep brown cattails swaying by the pond on my grandparents' farm. Their slender lines allowed light to dance through, revealing glimpses of water.
The brown cattails were handy when making high school home economics class wreaths. Because of my grandparents' farm, I had plenty of dried cornshucks and cattails. Using florist picks, we made florets with the tender leaves of the inner shucks, and the cattails were interspersed between them. The wreath was rich and full and was lightly sprayed with metallic green-gold paint. It was so beautiful, and I used it for many years after having my own family.
