Dec 24, Spring Charm
In 2021, I often visited a local river, the Chestatee. I began in January, so it was easy to walk along the riverbank since there was little foliage to struggle with. Each day, I went at a different time to get pictures of all the various light scenarios. From these photos, I made a series of 24 paintings.
After making so many paintings about the river, I yearned to use more color. The river basically involves blue, green, gray, and brown, and that was pretty much it. I thought adding some flowers along the way would be just the thing. The next spring, I went to a different river, the Toccoa, and discovered very few flowers. The ones I did see were white. Occasionally, there were daffodils and a few purple crocus here and there, but I wanted more.
I decided to search online for flowers along rivers. Rivers generally had very few flowers; sure enough, they were typically white. After that, I made several paintings using white, along with blue and green. It created a fresh feeling and an impression of flowers. I found satisfaction in the imagined scenes.
