This painting reminds me of winter by a river. It's almost as if winter and spring are juxtaposed here. In the past, I did not appreciate the beauty of trees with no leaves. When the trees begin to turn green with leaves in the Spring I'm elated. However, when I did an entire series of paintings based on a nearby river in the winter of 2021 I discovered I'm very intrigued by the interesting shapes available from the sparseness of foliage. I love that images of that river are still bubbling up abstractly through my hand.
On a deeper level, I see Spring emerging from Winter in this. It's such an image of life as we are ever in the midst of "the best of times and the worst of times" it seems. Spring dominates and winter provides just enough fluctuation to pull us toward newness. I often muse about the intuitive messages that come through art.
