On February 24 I visited the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I usually don’t pay much attention to the lily pond when I visit the gardens but this time was different. I made a discovery as I was more focused than usual on botanical details.
I discovered that during the transitional season the lily pond adopts a uniquely interesting aesthetic. There was an unexpected palette of monochromatic hues. The lily pads, which normally display a vibrant green, were subdued earthy tones instead. For me, they evoked a sense of calm and serenity.
It was the perfect inspiration for beginning my artistic journey through Nature’s Botanics. As the paintings about the pond developed, I enjoyed the elegant simplicity that evolved.
